Hyperventilation

The most common feeling when hyperventilating is that of ‘turning white’. Your heart races, your breath sticks in your throat, you become dizzy and feel a great pressure on your chest. The tightness and pain you feel in your upper arms make you think you’re about to have a heart attack. You are completely out of it.

‘Hyperventilation’ literally means ‘to breathe too much’. The causes can include too much tension, anxiety or phobias, life-changing emotional events and so forth. Your breathing becomes totally irregular (although in the period leading up to the incident it might not have been so healthy anyway). In other words, you go from bad to worse.
