Postpartum depression
This is also known as ‘postnatal depression’. You just gave birth to your child and you should really be in seventh heaven. Instead, the opposite is true. You feel really down in the dumps and you don’t know why. Miscarriages and abortions can also lead to depression. Your life is turned upside down and you just keep asking yourself, what can I do?
Here again, improper breathing could be a contributing cause of the depression. Many women have trouble breathing during pregnancy as their bellies grow bigger and fuller. Breathing becomes such a laborious task that instead of breathing through their bellies, they start breathing through their chests.
Then the birthing process itself places great demands on the body in terms of breathing and, again, this is done almost exclusively through the chest because women want to avoid putting strain on their bellies. Once they’ve given birth, too little attention is paid to getting the breathing going through the belly again.
